My Second Commission!
I can't believe it, but before I'd even sent my first out in the post, and this was a requested and paid commission!
I was very worried about my first paid commission however, because it wasn't a pet portrait, but a people portrait! It was of 3 young ladies, sisters, and it was to be a gift for their mum from the 3 of them.
I accepted the challenge however, feeling again that any drawing is practice for me. I did inform my client that if I was unable to draw the portrait to a high enough standard that I wouldn't accept payment and would let her know that I wouldn't be able to complete the portrait for her.
So down went the paper and I drew out the actual portrait really well to my surprise, however then I went in to shading and found that the paper i'd used just wasn't right for shading in graphite. She had requested that the portrait just be in pencil/graphite, so I decided that rather than be defeated at the first hurdle, I'd redraw it on different paper, and try again.
The paper I used in the end was A3 Pastel paper, it was cream in colour which turned out to look nice and once a border and frame has been added it will look even nicer. The pastel paper was thinner than the first sheet that I'd used, which is almost card in thickness, but it worked well with the pencil for shading.
It took me a little longer to finish this portrait and I honestly didn't think I'd have it done in time for her, however it seemed to fly by and before I knew it, I had finished it!
I was very pleased with my portrait to say it was the first I'd done of people in a long time and when she came to collect it, my client was over the moon!
The best part of doing this portrait wasn't being paid though, it was what I was sent later when she presented it to her mum. She sent me a little video of her handing it over, and her mum was so sweet, she nearly had me crying!
So guys, commission number 2 is now complete so I've a little spare time to draw a pet portrait which if it turns out well enough, I may just have a little announcement to make!
I shall include a picture of the portrait and a link to the video of her mum receiving her present as I'm unable to add it here at the moment.
Many of you who follow my Facebook page and Instagram will have probably already seen it, but as I want to try and keep anything up to date for those who aren't on my pages, i'm still going to post up things for all my supporters to see.
Take care guys and thank you for your support.
