Hi Everyone?
Isn't it great that we've got summer! Though the weather doesn't seem to of realised it yet ๐คจ I haven't seen so much rain for so long!
Anyway back to why we're here ๐
I decided on Saturday that I'm at a point in my commission that I can move no further until adelivery has arrived that I'm waiting on. I'm out of a few colours and I'm out of fixative, so I've got them ordered and will expect their arrival anyday.
So until they arrive I thought I'd take a few days off and relax, but failed lol. I was bored within hours so decided there was something I tried to draw years ago that I failed miserably! So now I've come so much further with my art, maybe how was the right time to try this piece again. So I took out a piece of my Pastelmat that I've been dying to try since my amazing gift sent in the post to me from a wonderful supporter, chose which colour was the best and started my new project.
This is actually not going in my portfolio, but I'll explain later why.
I've not done much, it took me about 2 hours just to get the actual drawing of him right, once I'd done that I started with the pastels.
Now when using pastels unlike when using coloured pencil, you start with the darker colours and add the lighter on top. Now working this way round does feel a little strange when your used to starting off very light, however I have to admit I have a huge soft spot for pastels and can really see them playing a huge role in my future and my art progress.
I actually have thought about swapping my medium from coloured pencils to pastels but I can decide! The commission I'm doing at the moment for example is no sure thing, be ause she's had a bad experience in the past when having a commission done I agreed that she could pay me at the end when it's complete and if she doesn't like him then she doesn't buy him. It's no huge thing because if she doesn't have him then he'll go in my portfolio, but it would be nice to know I've done a satisfactory job after working on him for 5 weeks. So we'll see. If it doesn't go well I think I may seriously think about changing and doing more with pastels. U won't give up coloured pencils, not at all, but I may swap my mediums around to pastels as my main area. I have a lot to learn and will be watching many videos on YouTube to learn different techniques etc. But it's just going to be another run on my ladder.
So here's how my drawing is going so far, I've done a little more since the last photo you'll see here, but I've not taken a picture just yet, however I've basically adds all the dark to his head now and started added the lighter colours to him too.
I hope you like him! He's very special.
After I've finished this piece and the commission, wherever he may land, I'm going to finish my two horses that I started in pastel, then I think I'm going to draw my Moomin Dackel. I also want to draw my boy Sasha, my Dalmatian that I lost just before he was 3 to a brain tumour sadly. Then I keep thinking I might draw either a hare, a fox, it a hedgehog! I can't decide ๐ though the hedgehog is looking favourite after speaking with someone recently, but I'll tell you all about that when I know things are in place and I can confirm things!
Take care my wonderful followers and we'll speak soon.
