My First Commission
Hi to all those that visit my blog!
I had some amazing news recently and was speaking to someone regarding a portrait of a dog and ended up starting my first commission for someone. This was an unpaid commission, but in my eyes all drawing is practice and all practice is the way to success.
So that is why i've not posted for a while.
The portrait that I did was a little terrier called Nellie! Wow is she cute to! I did it for a friend of mine on Facebook, as a gift for her wife.
It took me around 2 weeks to completely finish and I loved every second of drawing her.
I was terrified to start with about even starting this dog because I've attempted 2 dogs in past, and had numerous attempts at both and totally failed at both, so to have one that I was drawing for someone else as a gift was very scary, however I decided that I have improved in my art enough that I should try again to draw another dog, she is short coated which did make it easier, but also tan a white patched which made it more difficult, white fur is known as an artists nightmare lol.
Anyway, my client sent me a photo of her which I then went into my edit with it and changed the colour and contrast saving it a couple of times in different settings to highlight darker areas, lighter areas areas etc. and it worked out to be a great help for me to do that.
I don't currently have Photoshop, it's something that I can't afford at all, as much as I'd love it, but I do hope to get it in the future to help me draw out grids, change contrast, saturation and be able to click on an area of the photo and it tell me what colours there are.
I also want to change this blog to an actual website, but again its cost, I already have my domain name, but am unable to use it because I have to transfer it to this site, then pay a monthly fee on a yearly basis which again I just can't do, yet.
Anyway, back to my commission. I took my time, watched a few help videos on YouTube by some of my favourite artists and made a start, the time flew by and the drawing just took on a life that I never expected. I couldn't believe how well I'd got her eyes, then the fur, and it all just fell right into place. I was happy with the end result which I include for you to see, and I hope you like her too. I know there is still huge room for improvement, but I feel just from doing my horse in my last post to doing Nellie just a couple of weeks later, there is a huge leap in quality.
I hope you enjoy her as much I did drawing her.
Be Happy and Keep Creating!
