On The Lookout
Hi everyone,
This post is regarding the progress of my little Pine Marten that is stood front feet on a log looking out, hence the title I came up with.
He's taken me a little longer than he normally would of done due to running out of colours that I needed and having to wait on delivery and a little illness which put me in bed for a few days.
I'm back working on him now, and after a weekend break, he's really coming on well. I've got almost all of his top coat complete, I actually thought I had finished him, but looking at him, I think he needs more dark fur strokes adding. I've also made a start on his log that he's stood on, its actually blurred in the photograph, so I'll put in the details then add a blurred view to match the reference photograph I'm working from.
This little guy has been so much fun, and I plan to draw something from the Scottish forests in the future that is less known that the Pine Marten and much less seen, the Scottish Wildcat, I think they are beautiful to look at and I'd love to find a photographer who might have some pictures of some, or I'll find a reference photograph website for artists and see if I can find one on there.
Once this guy is finished, I'm going to put my Dachshund to one side to get started on a horse and to finish another horse portrait that I started some months back. I just hope the wonderful lady I'm drawing it for really does like this. I actually drew a portrait for her in coloured pencil, but told her I was going to keep him as I am just not happy with how he's turned out, but I think he'll look 100% better in pastels anyway. I just work better with them, faster with them, and find I can get detail so much nicer in pastels, though I've never drawn a bridle in pastels so that will be something new.
Anyway, here are a few pictures of my Pine Marten, from just being started, up to the last photograph of where he is now. I hope you like him as much as I've liked drawing him.
