A Christmas Stag, a new year wish

Hi everyone,

Firstly I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, as you may tell I'm a little behind when it comes to my blog, but life has been very busy over the last couple of months, however I hope things may return to of normalcy from now on.

December has turned out to be a very challenging month for me and my family and my drawing has been the one thing that's kept me moving forward and facing each day.
So with it being Christmas I decided I wanted to draw something wild, but something a little different than your usual reindeer or red Robin etc. that people associate with Christmas.
So after some looking around I came across a wonderful wildlife photographer who had the most stunning picture, I just fell in love with her photograph so contacted her to see if it was ok for me to draw from it, thankfully it was.

The picture is taken early morning and there's a beautiful big stag, head held high calling out his morning greetings, the mist of hot breath coming from his mouth and huge full antlers ready to use for battle. The colours in the photograph are stunning and one of my favourite things is the colour of the stag down his shoulders and across his side, the sun is just rising and is so bright, but as it hits the side of his body his coat goes from a beautiful mix of browns to bright shades of oranges and yellows, its just stunning.
So I started this big handsome fella, worried I could do him any justice, getting his colour right, his antlers right not only in shape but size and colour, and my biggest challenge was to get that colour right on his coat. So many different colours to add from pinks in his nose and mouth, to purples, browns, creams and oranges in coat and antlers.
However, so far I'm happy with the result. He's far from finished and with life being a little all over the place at the moment, plus I had 2 previous Commissions to get completed and sent to their owners, which both were finished, one framed and sent the other waiting for the framers to reopen in new year. My stag wasn't finished for Christmas or new year, but if I'm happy with the results how he turns out, then I'm going to have a dozen or two prints made of him on good quality art printing paper, so they're available for the public to buy and add to their homes. I will certainly be having a print for myself to add to the walls of my art studio (whenever it's built and ready).
I was gifted a beautiful surprise at Christmas from my fiance, a print of the black and white Irish cob commission I drew, which he had framed for me, so I can't wait to hang him. I am also having a print made of the beautiful grey I drew so she will be framed and hung too. Whether I'll have prints of either made to sell I'm not sure yet, it will depend on what 2020 brings for me.
So enclosed are a picture of my stag I'm drawing, I think I'm going to call the picture "A Morning Call". I do hope you like him and as soon as the owner of the grey has her commission I'll add her photograph of the completed commission for you all to see.
At the start of 2020 I'm going to finish the stag and my dachshund pup that I started quite a while back but never quite finished due to other commitments, but hopefully he will be completed then I will either start the German Shepard pup that was voted most requested to draw on my Instagram and Facebook post or a new commission fingers crossed one may appear.

Many thanks for everyone's support and help in 2019 and May 2020 bring us all happiness and prosperity 🎉
